Celebrating our Official National Motto's 60th Anniversary
FRC is partnering with the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation to help celebrate the 60th birthday of our nation’s official motto and to promote the motto’s display in homes, business places, on automobiles, and especially in schools, and government offices. America needs to be reminded to trust in God!
July 30, 1956 President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs into law a resolution passed by Congress to make “IN GOD WE TRUST” the official national motto of the United States of America. Prayer and Bible reading is considered essential to the proper education of our youth, and the U.S. Supreme Court repeatedly declares that the U.S. is a distinctively Christian nation. But just a few years after the motto was established, the court took a decisive turn.
FRC Church Ministries VP, Dr. Kenyn Cureton’s model sermon is chocked full of ideas for your “In God We Trust” message.

June 25, 1962 The ruling of Engel v. Vitale bans prayer from America’s public school. State and national leaders, especially the U.S. Supreme Court, begin a long, slow, seemingly intentional departure from our longtime national public identity and relationship with the God of the Bible. The 1962 ruling is reaffirmed by Abington School District v. Schempp on June 17th, 1963, declaring Bible reading and prayer unconstitutional.
A concerted effort is started by a growing network of devoted atheists, humanists and other secularists to subvert religious liberty and undo every public expression of faith, especially Christian faith in America. Crosses, Bible verses and the Ten Commandments are removed, not just from schools but from other public buildings on public university campuses, private colleges, government buildings of all kinds, public parks and memorials, etc.
November 1, 2011 U.S. Congress votes 396-9 to reaffirm our national motto and encourage its public display. A large percentage of our U.S. Congressmen and state legislators began displaying the motto in their offices. Schools across America post “In God We Trust;” hundreds of California cities display “In God We Trust” in their public buildings; and several states encourage display of the motto in every school classroom.
Signs of a nationwide spiritual awakening begin to appear, and as more and more people embrace a vital personal faith in God. They eschew the artificial expulsion of God from our public life, and want to display faith in God in every sphere of life.
July 31, 2016 Those who realize that the pillars of faith and morality are essential for the survival and prosperity of our Republic understand the importance of our motto, “In God We Trust!”
We are urging believers to join us in displaying attractive, quality, removable, clinging decals in homes, businesses, and vehicles across America! Click HERE to order decals for yourself or as gifts for others. Each decal purchase helps the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation and a portion will go to help the FRC’s Prayer mission.
And urge your pastor to make July 31st, “IN GOD WE TRUST” Sunday in your church. Point him to this page “IN GOD WE TRUST Sunday” located at http://www.frc.org/igwt.

May Americans be moved to notice, consider, remember and think often about our nation’s powerful motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST!” May it reach minds and hearts and be a constant reminder to men, women, boys and girls to look up! Amid the grave troubles of our nation and world, may Americans be moved to put their trust in the God of the Bible, Our Creator, and Lord, Jesus Christ! May we see another Great Awakening in our nation, and may the revival of our motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, contribute to it! ( Ps 20:7 ; 37:3-11 ; 118:8-17 ; 125:1 ; Pr 3:5 ; 1 Cor 2:12-14 )
